Couer d’Alene, ID

On the way West from Missoula, MT to Spokane, WA the I-90 encounters a narrow strip of land that forms the tip of the Idaho panhandle. Just off the I-90 and bordering  Lake Coeur d’Alene is its namesake. Originally for Pookaverse, it was a rest stop before the final 41 miles into Spokane, WA.

Nobody at the Beach, including the lifeguards, on a Tuesday afternoon…..

In fact what we encountered was another one of the numerous surprises on the first leg of this trip and that this country has to offer.  A quite stunning section  of this city by the waterfront where we took in the sun and the view. It was two hours like this that made the push West worth it.

The tower blocks move forward to the water’s edge – the Seagulls cry “Baaaaaaaaaaacckkk”, “Baaaaaaaaaacccckkkk”, “Back”, “Back”, “Back”…

Pookaverse meets one of the older residents of Couer d’Alene taking a morning dip…

    Hi Ali and Rohan,
Congratulations on your successful first part of your adventures…We were thinking of you especially this weekend as we drove down to a friends 60th birthday party yesterday 6th Oct in Abingdon. We left a 6.40 am and passed signs for your old work place Ali Stowe gardens!! We joined the party as we prepared to board the 4 hr Thames river cruise from Abingdon…the river was on red alert and they had forgotten to clear the water off the canapy over the boat it was a bit like a waterfall as we set off!
We stayed at a B&B and today joined our friend for her 15th Anniversary of her ordination in Steventon. We then called in at our friends near Leciester and had a lovely walk in the local deer park…didn’t see Fenton though!!

So pleased you both look so well and rested on your photo! Keep Safe and thanks for your continued updates.
    Catch up soon
With lots of love, Terri and Andrew xx

Couer d’Alene looks my kind of place, loved the photo of the tree roots mingling into the sea, fantastic

I agree – lovely photo. Did you venture into Spokane at all? It’s got that famous carousel in it – but that’s about all I know about it

We didn’t manage to see the Carousel Andy. That sounds interesting. It is a strange place with the I-90 dividing ‘Newtown’ (where the hotel was) from downtown. Then running the gauntlet of homeless people picketing the underpass as we walked downhill into ‘Downtown’. As Bing once sang…”it went straight down the middle”. Which was apparently about Golf….not about hurdling homeless people and/or hop-skip-and-jumping over bum dung.
